Residents, staff and neighbours gathered at St Mary’s Nursing Home in Moston, Manchester to raise £300 for Dementia UK.
Janet, one of our carers, organised a dementia awareness day in our tea room. She put up posters, set out leaflets and enlisted friends and colleagues to help serve tea, coffee, cakes and other treats.
The event was busy all day with residents’ family members, friends of the home and people who live nearby dropping in. Importantly, many visitors commented that they learned a lot about dementia and how it affects people.
Residents and staff also decorated the reception area with trimmings and balloons on a Mother’s Day theme, for a Qualia-wide best-dressed reception competition.
Some beautiful baskets designed by our administrative assistant, Barbara, were a real focal point. Barbara often buys baskets, decorates them, and fills them with treats to sell to raise money for the residents’ fund. For Mother’s Day she made up luxurious sets of toiletries – and even a jokey gift hamper of cleaning products!View more updates from St Marys
