Residents at High Peak Lodge Residential and Nursing Home in Leigh have been getting competitive during our games afternoons!
We have put up a scoreboard on the wall, featuring the names of the most recent winners of our darts and dominoes tournaments – and a new system for awarding bigger prizes.
Our activities co-ordinator, Leanne, explained: “We’ve been playing darts and dominoes for a few weeks now. These games really bring out everyone’s competitive streak!
“We’ve started keeping a running total of winners. So far, residents riding high have included Olive, Ken, Audrey and Frank.”
Leanne continued: “We also have a ‘star’ scheme so that every time someone wins, they get a star on the door of their room.
“When they get 10 of them, they can choose a prize such as a lunch out, or a new item of clothing to wear. The residents really want to get those stars and have been concentrating even harder on their game as a result!”
In other entertainment, Leanne’s fellow activities co-ordinator, Sophie, has been organising regular karaoke afternoons featuring wartime favourites, and country singer Paddy Johnson stopped by to perform.
A coffee and cake afternoon – featuring prize bingo – will take place on Friday 27 September from 2pm to 3.30pm, to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Visitors are welcome to attend!View more updates from High Peak Lodge
