Residents make Downshaw bloom

Green-fingered residents at Downshaw Lodge have been digging deep to provide the home with some spring colour. Keen gardeners at the Ashton-under-Lyne home have been planting spring bulbs and daffodils so that fellow residents and visitors can enjoy a display of beautiful blooms next year. And after a busy day in the garden they have been making good use of Downshaw’s new garden furniture. Residents have also enjoyed recent visits to a community garden in the local park to watch the odd game or two of bowls. Lifestyle and Well-being Officer, Jill Wilkinson says: “We think it’s important that we are part of the community, and whenever we get the chance we take advantage of what’s going on locally.”

Staff saddle up for Xmas fundraiser

Kind-heated staff at Downshaw Lodge will be saddling up once again to raise funds for festive celebrations. They will be going the extra mile with a sponsored bike ride to raise money for the residents’ presents and Christmas party. Cyclists from the Ashton-under-Lyne home will hit the local canal towpath one weekend in November and aim to cover as many miles as possible. The sponsored cycle follows the success of the Qualia Bike-a-thon earlier this year when staff members were sponsored for munching the miles on an exercise bike, raising valuable funds for the home’s activities programme.
