Flavours of the world on offer at Simonsfield

Foods and cultures of different countries from across the globe will be in the spotlight at Simonsfield Residential Care Home, Liverpool, this year.

Our activities co-ordinator, Dawn, plans to focus on one nation each month, pinning up photos and encouraging residents to make flag to hang in the dining room. Our chef will also create home-made versions of popular dishes from each country. First up will be China – to tie in with Chinese New Year.

In other news, poetry has become increasingly popular among residents who gather for Dawn’s afternoon tea sessions. She explained: “We have readings on a theme, as we enjoy our drinks and treats. I pick out poems and the residents really enjoy hearing them.

“We have one resident, Diane, who used to be a keen poet, and we’ve read out some of her work too. Many of our residents love to hear a good story, so I read them a spooky one with a new year theme, involving ghosts, monks and a belfry.”
