Gilwood Lodge turned the clock back as residents and staff celebrated the Blackpool home’s new ‘Good’ rating with a good old fashioned street party.
Staff laid on the fantastic Forties-style street party for residents, family and fellow health professionals.
They dressed up as land girls and airmen, and laid on a sing-along and dancing to wartime favourites performed by Two’s Company.
There was an appearance from some visitors from the animal kingdom, with residents getting up close and personal to Hands on Animals’ wild and wonderful menagerie of owls, snakes and spiders.
And of course no street party would be complete without a delicious selection of sandwiches, scones and Victoria sponge cake!
The colour green was also prominent throughout to celebrate Gilwood’s recent Good overall rating and Good across all Key Lines of Enquiry from health watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Manager Gill Starkey explains: “We were thinking about what residents want and street parties are an area that residents can all relate to because of the VE celebrations. For us it’s a big celebration of what we’ve achieved.
“The party went very, very well and it was great to see the lounges packed full of people enjoying themselves and having a great time.
“Our residents loved the whole experience, which is great because we are here for them and we wanted the party to be for them.”
Staff were also presented with gift vouchers as a thank you for all their hard work and dedication, which has enabled Gilwood to achieve ‘green’ CQC status.
Qualia Care managing director, Phil Whitaker says: “Gill and all the staff at Gilwood have worked tremendously hard to provide the best-possible care for residents, and we are delighted that this has been recognised by the CQC.”View more updates from Gilwood Lodge
