Gilwood Lodge celebrates Burns Night with Scottish-themed day

Residents, staff, family and friends enjoyed a Scottish-themed day at Gilwood Lodge Nursing Home, in Blackpool, to celebrate Burns Night.

We all wore tartan clothing, and for those of us who didn’t own a kilt, we sported other accessories like scarves and hats.

Later that afternoon we sang ‘Auld Lang Syne’ together, and had a lunch of haggis, meat and ‘tatties’, followed by a wee dram of whiskey.

Our activities co-ordinator, Gill, said: “One resident has a son, Paul, who visited us in the late afternoon to read us some Scottish poetry – ‘Parcel of Rogues’, ‘A Red, Red Rose’ and ‘Ae Fond Kiss’ – which we all loved.

“We also had a second visitor, Andy, who read out some common Scottish phrases, and we had to guess what he was saying. It was really funny and had us all laughing! We had a great day!”
