Gilwood Lodge’s manager Gill is gearing up for a daredevil stunt to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
She will perform a 10,000ft sky dive on 10 November – even though she is terrified of heights. Colleagues at the Blackpool home, plus Gill’s friends, family and business contacts, have been sponsoring her for the great cause.
Gill explained: “I don’t even like being on the top floor of a multi-storey car park – but dementia is a cause that is really close to my heart. I thought that I could raise more money if I was truly out of my comfort zone!
“I’ve been a bit nervous about this challenge but now my attitude is ‘bring it on!’ I work with residents who have dementia every day. There needs to be lots more research into the condition, its causes and effects – as well as more support for families affected by dementia.”
All our residents at Gilwood have a dementia diagnosis and Gill’s own grandmother suffered from the disease. Gill’s jump is taking place with the Black Knights Sky Diving Centre in Lancaster.View more updates from Gilwood Lodge
