Residents of Downshaw Lodge, Ashton-under-Lyne, are enjoying their new football table, which has teams wearing red and blue.
The colours tie in with those of Manchester’s football giants United and City – so residents have had fun holding local derby matches. The table, suitable for wheelchair users, is proving very popular with staff and visitors, too.
Our activities co-ordinator, Adrianna, said: “We had some money kindly donated by the family of a resident who had passed away. After some discussion with residents, we asked them whether they would like it to be spent on a football table or a pool table.
“They chose football, so I ordered one online. When it arrived in a flat pack, the residents helped me to put it together. It’s been a great talking point, and source of entertainment, since then!”
The residents have also been keeping active with fortnightly visits from local charity the Shed Men, who organise activities such as bowls and curling.View more updates from Downshaw Lodge
