This summer Millfield received five baby chicks. The chicks, along with incubator, hutch, run, food and bedding were donated to Millfield as part of a community project being run by Crossroads Together.
The Charity have been funded by Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) through the ‘Social Investment Fund’ to run a a Social Hen Home Project in Rochdale. The aims of the project are to: help bring together older people living in care home settings in Rochdale to combat loneliness and depression and to gain a sense of purpose.
The project aims to achieve the following outcomes:
· Help reduce depression amongst residents;
· Help reduce loneliness and social isolation among residents;
· Improve the health and wellbeing of residents;
· Improve conversation topics and encourage residents to come together.
Residents have been involved in daily handling of the chicks and the chicks have been going around all the units in the home.View more updates from Millfield
