Qualia celebrate Burns Night with Scottish themed afternoon tea at St Mary’s

At Qualia Care each month revolves around celebrating one culturally significant event in the calendar from history or around the world.

January was a celebration of Burn’s Night with Scottish themed activities and events happening across the Qualia Care family of homes.

Residents at St Mary’s Nursing Home in the Moston, Greater Manchester, celebrated with family and friends at a Scottish themed afternoon tea.

Hand-made flags and beautiful collages, featuring the Loch Ness monster, were created by our residents, especially for the day.

We enjoyed a lunch of traditional Scottish dishes such as haggis and ‘tatties and neeps’, as well as a dram of whisky. We also listened to Caledonian classics, including ‘Braveheart’, ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Flower of Scotland’ and ‘Blue Belly Poker’.

Norma, our activities coordinator, said: “The afternoon was a lot of fun for us all, and we sang along to the songs. On resident, Harry, sung the loudest, as he is of Scottish descent so knew all the words!

“It was lovely to see everyone with their family and friends celebrating Burn’s Night!”
