Singers keep residents entertained at Downshaw Lodge

A singer called Gary – who also performs a ballroom dancing routine with his wife – has become a real favourite among residents of Downshaw Lodge in Ashton-under-Lyne.

He sings well-known hits by big names, from Elvis to the Rat Pack – with something for everyone to enjoy, whatever their musical tastes.

Gary, who keeps returning by popular demand, also tells jokes and encourages his audience to sing and clap along, and even dance!

Our activities co-ordinator, Adrianna, said: “Gary is fantastic. The residents particularly love that he brings his wife along, and that there is a dance section. He gets everyone involved.”

Other recent singers welcomed to Downshaw Lodge include John, who shook each resident by the hand before launching into a collection of Frank Sinatra numbers.

His appearance was part of our bonfire party, at which we served up tasty potato hash and red cabbage, as well as sticky parkin for a sweet treat.

Residents’ family members and friends – including several children, and off-duty staff – also joined in our bonfire party, which featured a firework display.
