St Mary’s chocolate explosion cake helps to raise money for Macmillan

St Mary’s Nursing Home in Moston, Manchester, responded to a Qualia-wide challenge calling for homes to make Great British Bake Off-inspired ‘showstopper’ cakes.

Our residents worked with the activities co-ordinators to make a huge chocolate cake covered with Maltesers and M&Ms. They called it the ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Explosion Cake’ and auctioned it during a Macmillan coffee morning, attended by relatives and friends.

The cake helped to raise funds for the cancer charity at the event, which also featured plenty of other delicious bakes.

Our chef won the cake – but then presented it to a colleague whose son was about to celebrate his 16th birthday party. It created a real wow for the teenager on the day, who also received a home-made, football-themed card from us.
