Visitors flock to Washington Lodge for Christmas fair

Community members crowded into Washington Lodge Nursing Home in the North East for a Christmas fair.

We set up an array of stalls in our upstairs dining room. Friends, relatives, neighbours and people from nearby businesses flocked through our doors, keen to buy treats and crafts.

The attractions included brownies and fudge, baked by our residents’ family members, and knitted teddy bears and blankets contributed by staff – as well as handmade greetings cards and scented oil burners.

Staff put posters up in the local area and balloons outside the home to advertise the fair.

The event raised money for the residents’ fund. Our activities coordinator, Jade, explains: “We’ve talked to the residents about what they’d like us to spend the money on. They said they would love to see more visiting entertainers – in particular, they love to welcome singers to our home.”
