Budgie chat at Sandycroft

Residents at Sandycroft Nursing Home, Blackpool, have been enjoying the company of our four budgies.

Kiwi and Meg, who belong to our activities co-ordinator, Marlene, live in our lounge and a further two birds, Bluebell and Charlie – bought by the home – live with their adopted carer, our resident Eric, in his room.

Marlene said: “The budgies bring us a lot of joy, especially in these times. It’s the simple things that count. It’s lovely when we put their cages side by side so they can chat to each other!”

In other news, we are returning to a ‘new normal’ with our first visiting singer since before lockdown booked in for a distanced, indoor show. Our hairdresser, Olivia, is also back in action, wearing a visor as she works.

We recently had a send-off celebration for our much-loved care worker, Kayleigh, who has gone on maternity leave, as well as marking residents’ birthdays with cakes, candles, and plenty of singing.

One of our residents, Leah, is learning some Spanish with the help of Marlene, and developing an interest in portrait painting.

Marlene said: “Leah is only 24 years old, and we do all sorts together. She loves to play games with dice and manages to win a bar of chocolate from me almost every day!”
