Residents at Sandycroft Nursing Home, Blackpool, sat down with lemonade shandy and biscuits for the the grand prize draw in our summer raffle!
Colleagues were hoping to declare the winners at a barbecue – but rainy weather meant we needed to change our plans, and we staged an indoor get-together instead.
Our activities co-ordinator, Marlene, said: “Our raffle has been a bit of a talking point. Up for grabs were sunglasses, sunhats, sarongs and beach bags.
“Even though we haven’t been blessed with much sunshine in recent weeks, we’ve certainly got into the holiday spirit!”
Money from our regular raffles is always ploughed into the next one. Marlene stocked up on summer goods from bargain stores and displayed them on our sideboard – tempting residents and colleagues to buy a ticket and try their luck.
In other news, we’ve been painting beautiful stones that Marlene collected on a recent walk, with heartfelt messages for our loved ones. The rocks were spray-painted silver before the lettering was carefully added with fine brushes.
We have also been decorating plant pots and growing basil from seed. We’re now waiting to see if our little plants will take and survive outdoors.View more updates from Sandycroft
