Home is where the hearth is at Sandycroft

Residents and colleagues at Sandycroft Nursing Home in Blackpool are delighted with our centrepiece – a festive fireplace and hearth scene, created by our handyman, Paul.

Made out of wood, cardboard and other materials, the Yuletide display – in pride of place, in our lounge – is getting everyone into the festive spirit.

Our activities co-ordinator, Marlene, said: “Our fireplace is absolutely beautiful. It has a roaring fire and stockings hanging from the mantelpiece. I’ve added wrapped parcels around it to complete the scene and we love showing it off to visitors.”

Marlene is planning a ’12 days of Christmas’ countdown to the big day, involving activities such as joke telling. Colleagues, family and friends are busy contributing to two beautiful hampers which will be the star prizes in our festive raffle.

Marlene continued: “We have chocolates, nuts, whiskey and other goodies in there as well as luxury toiletries. We’ve also been making our own crackers, filled with gifts, bells and paper hats.”

A cheeky elf on the shelf is another source of fun – with a special prize up for grabs, for any resident who correctly guesses her name!
