Millfield’s fancy dress runners and walkers raise £560

Participants in a five-kilometre sponsored walk and run raised £560 for the residents’ fund at Millfield Nursing Home in Heywood, Greater Manchester.

Activities co-ordinator, Suzie, organised the event in which a group of six colleagues went at their own pace – walking, jogging or running – along the route from the home to Queen’s Park and back.

Suzie’s colleague, Kelly, said: “It was a fancy-dress challenge, and we had a lot of fun with our costumes. I went as Pippi Longstocking and Suzie dressed up in a banana costume. We also had an 80s throwback, a cave woman and an army girl with her military training dog there on the day!”

Our residents were delighted to see us looking so silly, for such a good cause. They waved from their windows as we went past.

Originally, we had hoped that some residents could join in, using their wheelchairs, but coronavirus restrictions meant they had to stay safe indoors.
