Pirate day for Simonsfield residents

Colleagues and residents of Simonsfield Residential Care Home in Liverpool are getting ready for our annual pirate day on Tuesday 15 September.

The event at our home usually ties in with the city’s Pirate Festival centred on Albert Dock, though festivities have been cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

We will be dressing up – with cutlasses, stuffed parrots and eye-patches – to welcome the Liverpool Ukulele Band, who will play sea shanties in our garden.

In other news we have been learning all about Spain – listening to flamenco music, clacking our castanets and trying traditional foods such as meatballs and spaghetti, as well as dainty lemon cakes.

Our activities co-ordinator, Dawn, said: “Spain is the subject for my Tuesday chit chat club this month. We have been talking about bullfighting and displaying Spanish flags.

“Most of our residents have been to Spain in the past, as it was one of the first places that opened up for package holidays in the 1960s – so we have lots of memories to share.”
