Downshaw Lodge residents judge children’s competition

Colleagues and residents at Downshaw Lodge Care Home in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, held a poetry and art competition for pupils of two nearby primary schools.

The theme for the children’s writing, drawing, collage and painting was school holidays – with youngsters encouraged to describe and depict their favourite things to do in summer.

Plenty of pupils wrote about the seaside and funfairs, bringing back our residents’ memories of visiting favourite destinations such as Southport and Blackpool.

Our activities co-ordinator, Ameera, said: “Colleagues came up with the idea of the competition – it’s nice to make connections with others in our community.

“Our residents really enjoyed judging the entries. They chose two winners to receive £10 shopping vouchers as prizes.”

In other news, some residents have been having a lot of fun watching racing on TV, picking out their horse and cheering them on!
